Meeting 12th February 2024

Our February meeting was a ‘white table’ event where wives, partners and friends were invited to attend the festive board. We held a quick meeting and then afterwards enjoyed a lovely Tickton Grange meal.

Following the meal we received a talk on the work of the Hornsea branch of Coast Watch, a volunteer organisation that literally provides eyes-on services down the stretch of coast adjacent to Hornsea, in both directions, with visibility from Bridlington in the North to Withernsea in the South. This is a service to mariners and beach users alike, watching out for people in difficulty and working with the Coastguard to organise prompt responses to people in an emergency in the sea or on the coast. Surprisingly, there are only 7 Coast guard stations around the UK and Coast Watch provides an important adjunct to this service.

The talk was given by the team leader Kath Robson-Jervois and team member John Thompson, who thanked us for the contribution we had made to their funds on a previous occasion.

It gave us all an insight into this vital work supporting the emergency services in our region.
